Oak & Ivy: Craft by the Barrel

Oak & Ivy: Craft by the Barrel

Ask Oak & Ivy bartender Chris Gutierrez what sets this American craft whiskey cocktail bar apart, and his answer is simple: “Over the top service. Over the top quality.”
Boasting a selection of six barrel-aged cocktails, all unique handcrafted drinks made with high quality, fresh, seasonal ingredients, Oak & Ivy opened in Downtown Container Park earlier this month with a passion for impeccable classic mixology.
Oak & Ivy’s barrel-aged cocktails include the Angel’s Envy Manhattan, crafted with Angel’s Envy Bourbon and Carpano Antica Formula Sweet Vermouth; the Blood and Clovers with Jameson Black Barrel Irish Whiskey, Cherry Heering, and Carpano Antica Formula Sweet Vermouth; and the Wright Flight with Wild Turkey Rye, Luxardo Maraschino, and Rothman & Winter Créme de Violette. All of Oak & Ivy’s barrel-aged cocktails are mixed in batches and aged for a minimum of four to six weeks to ensure maximum flavor and a consistent experience.
“We enjoy adding those personalized touches with our drinks and garnishes, like using all handmade garnishes, and our own house-made grenadine and ginger beer,” Gutierrez said. “We like to do new drinks, and coming up with the Oak & Ivy menu, we were focused on more craft, more out of the box drink-making.”
Another offering is the Terroir Mary, Oak & Ivy’s take on the classic Bloody Mary, inspired by the neighboring restaurants at Container Park. The Terroir Mary features vodka infused at Oak & Ivy with lemongrass and peppercorn, as well as a mix that includes onion and cilantro in homage to Pinches Tacos, barbecue sauce inspired by Big Ern’s, tomato as a tribute to Simply Pure, and red wine inspired by Bin 702.
Oak & Ivy also carries a selection of beers, including the extremely limited Firestone 2013 Stickee Monkee, and other beer enthusiast favorites including Delirium Tremens and Innis & Gunn.
Stop by and taste for yourself. Oak & Ivy is open Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.; and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. It’s located at Downtown Container Park, 707 Fremont St., Suite 1120.
